How do you choose a photographer? There are so many photographers today – how do you know which one is the right fit for your photography needs? I’d love to hear what you envision: are we capturing your newborn, all squishy and sweet? Do you have a delightfully rambunctious 2 yr. old that is a blur in your camera? Is your baby turning 5 and you are wondering how to freeze time before kindergarten? Your tween is growing up in front of your eyes and you realize it’s been a while since you turned a professional camera on her and you know, if you blink, she’ll be in high school. Maybe it’s been YEARS since you had a family picture taken, or just a “good one” with you in it? Is your oldest somehow already approaching his senior year? I’d love to hear your story, hear about your family, and come up with the perfect time and place to capture images that you’ll cherish to help you savor this moment. I promise it will be fun and you’ll be thrilled with the images after our session as well. Contact me via the contact menu tab and let’s chat.
How did I become a photographer? I get asked this a lot. And, frankly, I didn’t study photography in college. No, I have a Psychology degree. Growing up, my dad loved taking pictures of nature and I loved using a camera but never snapped a picture unless there were people in the frame. After I got married and had kids, I tried to capture every moment as the boys grew (even before cell phones had cameras, ahem!) When my youngest was born I went from a film SLR to a digital SLR and I was determined to hone my photography skills. So I began practicing and studying. And studying and practicing. And then my friends started seeing my images and they asked if I would take pictures of their kids, too (thanks, Facebook!) And before I knew it, what started as a hobby with some passion turned into a passionate hobby and then, nearly overnight, in 2009, a full fledged business! I have loved every minute of it and have enjoyed watching it grow as my wonderful clients share their images with their family and friends. I have received most of my clients by referral, and I take that as a compliment!
What’s my style? My style is casual both in my manner and in my work. Clients claim that their sessions, even with a 2 yr old and 4 yr old near a big ol’ creek, were the least stressful sessions they have ever had! I love kids (and big people, too) and enjoy joking and playing around with everyone to get them comfortable. I enjoy bringing a fresh look to your family images. I mix traditional portraiture with a more modern, lifestyle perspective so that we not only capture what you look like but who you are! I love to catch a quiet moment between Mom and son or a fun, giggly moment between brother and sister. And knowing that each day as you walk by the wall art we create you smile and remember and cherish those that are most important to you is what makes me love this job so much. I want you to love your images as much as I do. And I truly believe that you will.
