It's on its way...thanks!

Whoops...you missed something...can you fix it and try again? Thanks!

pretty little princess|Franklin Newborn Baby Photographer

What happens when you have two adorably charming little boys and a mystery gender baby in your belly who turns out to be a darling baby girl?  You shower her with girlie things…a wonderfully girlie name like Ruby Jane, lots of pink outfits and, of course, not one but two tutus!  And you call your local photographer who has been begging for more newborn baby girls (that’s me!)

I was tickled pink, if I do say so myself, when Ruby Jane’s mom called me and told me that she had a sweet fresh out of the oven baby girl for me!!  I packed up all my newborn baby girl accessories and props and off I went!!!

isn't she beautiful?

Ruby Jane was perfect in every way.  I don’t think she ever cried and she gave me a great long stretch of sleepy baby that let me have some great fun with her before she was awake.  Her proud big brothers watched eagerly as I set up and hung around the session for a while as well.

my brand new bed!

Little big brother Silas was a tad shy, but he did great when it came time to jump in with his new baby sister for a kids only group shot.  Big brother Liam is a pro at this big brother thing, and he enjoyed some extra time in front of the camera, or should I say “Batman” enjoyed some camera time.  Oh I do love a preschool boy in superhero garb!!!

i know you were worried, mom...and look at them!!!

All in all, it was a superb session!  Thanks Mom and Mimi, for doing the rocking, feeding and baby whispering during the ‘in betweens’.  Your family is gorgeous.  It was a sincere pleasure hanging out with you today!  If you love these, you’ll be thrilled to see the rest!

parting shot:

asher {3 months}|Brentwood Baby Plan Photographer

Today marks the start of what I hope to be a beautiful friendship with baby Asher.  Asher is 3 months old and will be visiting me several times over the next year so we can watch him grow.  He’ll definitely be getting bigger but I’m not sure he’ll be able to get any cuter.  Just wait and see this adorable fellow!  His big brother nearly stole the show early in the session as we gathered the family for some new family images outdoors.  Did I mention how much I am LOVING these cooler mornings and evenings?  Fall is on its way!  Ok, so back to Paxon…maybe it is because he’s nearly the same age as my little guy, or perhaps it is his blond hair and sparkly blue eyes, I don’t really know, but he had my heart immediately.  We had lots of fun hanging out with Mom and Dad and his new little brother.

Then it was time for Asher to be front and center.  He performed beautifully, trying out his smile, laugh and serious poses for me.  Maybe he knew I was coming?  Before I knew it, time was up and it was time to say goodbye until next time.  It’s hard to believe that in just a couple of months he’ll be sitting like a champ and starting to pester his big brother!

Paxon was excited to show me his new instrument:  his mom’s guitar from when she was a little girl his age.  How cool is that?  We got a couple images to remember this special time…and if he becomes a recording artist someday you better believe I’m going to pull out these images and say “I knew him when…!”

Thanks G family for a peek into your life and a wonderful visit into your home.  I look forward to doing it all again very soon!  Enjoy your sneak peek…I have lots more to show you!

it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas| Nashville Custom Family Photography

ok, ok.  I exaggerate!  But when highs are in the 80s it is time for me to think HOLIDAYS!  Because I’ve got to stay one step ahead of all of you who are going to wake up one day real soon and think…”I’ve got to start thinking about our holiday card picture!”  That’s right!  You’ve got plenty of planning to do.  What will we wear?  Where will we have it taken?  WHO will take it?  Do I know how to use the timer on my camera?  Hmmm, how many cards will we send out this year?  Can I actually get away with an email greeting or is that cheesy?  How much IS postage now anyway?  And the list goes on…

I, of course, have a solution for you!  Perhaps this isn’t the season for a full family photography session.  Or maybe you’ve already been a client at khp this year?  Whatever the reason, I am now offering limited MINI HOLIDAY SESSIONS!  Come to your appointment time, spend just a few minutes with me, and you’ll get a family image to brag about, and a few images of the kids that will make great holiday gifts!

While the weather doesn’t exactly have us all thinking scarves and hot cocoa, it definitely is time to think about this Holiday season’s greeting cards!

You know how every year you say that THIS year you are going to have your picture taken, your cards purchased, envelopes addressed and stamped and in the mail by December 1?  I’m here to make that dream a reality!  Think of how much less stressful December would be if you knew you had one (major) task completed before November even ended!

Introducing the Holiday 2010 line of Christmas and Seasonal greeting cards from karenhalbert photography!  I have hand selected these custom cards to meet any style, from whimsical to regal!  Each card is fully customizable, from color to font, wording to image count!  And each press printed card has a design or full image for the back as well (not shown).

Happy 1st Anniversary! What a ride…|Nashville Custom Child Family Photography

A little over a year ago, with a lot of (not so) gentle prodding from the world’s most amazing friends and family, I started up an itty bitty photography business.  I don’t know if I was even comfortable saying “I’m a photographer” for several months into the journey!  A few loyal friends became my first clients…and they told 2 friends, and they told 2 friends, and so on, and so on…

And a year later, WOW is all that I can say.  And THANK YOU.

Wow.  Who knew that God would prepare a new career for me just before Scott would be let go from his job?  This year has been ‘interesting’ financially, but we feel confident that we are where we are supposed to be.

Thank you.  I am humbled.  Humbled that you all have viewed my images, found favor with them and chosen to allow me to do the same for you.  Stop time.  Capture your children, family, precious moments, personal selves…as gifts for your current family, your future family and for your memories.  You have given me a richer life, a new career, and fueled my passion.  You’ve tested me…and challenged me to learn how to balance my responsibilities, do the things I don’t necessarily enjoy (like paperwork!) and, most of all, have made me so proud.  When you gush over your most favorite images and tell me how much they mean to you…well, I get all warm and fuzzy inside!  I love coming home with my camera, loading my card and waiting to see what magical images are going to be there that I know will make you laugh, cry and will make you so happy that we spent some time together earlier that day.

So many of you!  Looking back last night, I was smiling remembering the funny, crazy, sweet and endearing moments with you, your kids and your friends.  I consider you all part of the khp family!  A few of you have even come back again, and that says a lot about what I’m able to capture for you.  And that is why I do what I do.  I could sit and look at my kids’ pictures all day.  There are some that still take my breath away or stir up some deep emotion for me about the stage of life they were in (now long gone), and I am so grateful for all of the images that capture us “right where we are now.” I hope you are, too, and I’m thrilled if ‘khp’ is on the back of those images that you love!

Here’s a look back at many of the sessions that comprise my first year as a professional photographer.  Thank you for going on this journey with me.  I am so excited to see what the next year brings!

The TOO HOT TO SHOP Gallery Wrapped Canvas Sale You Don’t Want To Miss|Nashville Custom Portraiture

canvas gallery wrap sample J1 blog

Canvas gallery wrap rogers

Canvas w2in Gallery Wrap Greene

By far, the thing that my clients wish for most is a gallery wrapped canvas.  They are elegant, gorgeous, easy to hang and a beautiful way to cherish an image (or group of images) for a long time to come!  There are many ways to choose a gallery wrapped canvas for your very own, from a single image nice and big, to a collage of images all on one canvas or even a collection of gallery wrapped images (my favorite is 9 6×6 squares.  LOVE IT!)  They are constructed of high quality canvas and stretched (wrapped) around wood frames.  And the work involved shows…a good canvas has smooth corners and simple hardware to use to hang them.  I personally love the fact that the moment you pull your canvas out of the box it is ready to hang!  No searching for the perfect frame, deciding on matting, taking it to the frame store, etc.  You can start admiring your new piece of art as soon as you decide where to hang it and throw a nail in the wall!  It’s that simple.

But most of us don’t have an unlimited budget, so oftentimes the canvas (or 2nd canvas) gets weeded out of the shopping list.  If that is you, pay close attention, because this sale is for YOU!  (Don’t make me call you out right here on the blog! You know who you are!!!)  I have a super secret special once in a millenium deal on a few sizes of premium gallery wrapped UV coated canvas…and when they are gone, they are gone!  If you see a size that might work for you, email me right away or contact me via the contact page here.  Don’t see the size you want or perhaps need 2?  You can have any size your little heart desires at 35% off!!  Still a fantastic deal!

Ta Dah! | Nashville Custom Portraiture (Products)

While I know you all LOVE to come and hang out with me, rounding up the family for your appointed session, smiling, acting like you like each other, bribing the kids, etc., we know that there is ONE main reason that you go through it all…for the END RESULT!  You’ve done the work, viewed the gallery, measured your walls, considered all the upcoming birthdays and holidays, placed your order, waited a couple of weeks, and finally!  Your order has arrived!  Woo hoo!  As excited as you are to see your products, I have to admit that I am really excited to see them for the first time too!

Today I arrived home to find a BIG OL’ box sitting on my porch!  I knew what was in there and I couldn’t wait to see the products inside!  Six gorgeous gallery wrapped canvases which make up one of my new offerings:  CANVAS CLUSTERS!  Oh my…you know you want one!!!   And the Lowery family tonight have their very own to hang!

I spread it all out on my entryway floor, ran up to the 2nd floor and shot this image over the balcony.  Don’t be making fun of my scratched up floors…my boys have a very good time riding endlessly around my house chasing each other on various riding toys.  And, I figure, they won’t be little forever…

Back to the cluster.  You can’t tell from here but this is an impressive collection, measuring 74 inches in width!  2 16x20s, a 32×20 and 4 10x10s.  Perfect for those of you that can’t decide on just 1 image!  I promise to show you this once it is hanging happily in its new home!

Also arriving recently were 2 new image boxes.  The first one came with a set of 4×6 proofs for the Lowerys.  I love that cool design!  It goes perfectly with their boots!

Michael P White, Illustrator|Atlanta Nashville Commercial Photographer

I recently traveled to Atlanta and met up with an amazing artist and children’s book illustrator, Michael P White.  Michael is best known for his work with author Carmen Agra Deedy, including “The Secret of Old Zeb” and “The Library Dragon.”  Michael also travels to cities across the country sharing with children in schools and libraries about how to turn an idea into a story and a hobby into a career!  His program is interactive and the kids love it!  Michael has even presented several times locally in Nashville schools and at the Brentwood Library!  You can check out his work here.

Michael wanted an updated image for his upcoming book “Return of the Library Dragon” (working title),  due out in early 2011, a sequel to the amazingly popular (and awesome, if I may say so) book titled The Library Dragon.  So, perhaps we’ll see some khp work on the dust jacket of the upcoming book?  Wow!  How exciting is THAT!

We went for some traditional stuff but threw in a couple fun images too.  They are my favorite.

Thanks, Whites, for your hospitality and trust in me to create images for you!  I hope you love them.  And, readers, wherever you are, I encourage you to talk to your school events coordinator, librarian or local library director and request that Michael bring his road show to you!  You’ll be so glad you did!  And, if you hear that Michael will be in your town or school, grab a pencil and head on down to hear him!
